I Am Her Tribe
Danielle Doby
I Am Her Tribe
You know, sometimes you find yourself in a season of reading really analytical content.
Sometimes its reading fiction, allowing your mind the blissful escape to a new dimension.
Often times for me, its some sort of spiritual, therapeutic, personal development story….
But what I think we often miss, is the pure art form, of another humans writing.
The soul food, a creator has to share.
I think that poetry is such a beautiful example of that. It has always had a special vibration with me as I believe that we are all so intricately connected as a collective. So energetically connected that one humans words, one humans art, will inevitably land at home in the heart of the receiver.
In this book of poetry by Danielle Doby, every single piece is full of rawness, of passion and of truth.
Danielle’s “I am her tribe” movement was first shared on social media & intended to bring women together, to create a sense of safety in community and to speak to the rawness of the human experience.
Her book “I am her tribe” was a long awaited gift to this world. And there isn’t a piece of writing in here, that this world doesn’t deeply need.
Its an easy read! These short pieces are between a paragraph to just under two pages. And although powerful, its easy to digest.
This is a book you will want to keep on your coffee table, for those slow mornings and to share with each women that walks into your home.
“Two feet in
this year
I choose to burn my good candles
on a Tuesday at noon
just because
I choose to use the expensive lotion
the one I keep tucked safe up on the counter
not ration any of my most cherished belongings
because I am worth investing in ---right now
this year I choose to wear that thing
you know
the one I told myself I would slip on
when I looked a certain way?
I choose to love my body
this vessel I have been given
and her seasons as they shift
this year
I give myself permission to change
and keep changing
for I understand
there is an underlying truth when it comes
to becoming- it doesn't have to mirror anyone else
this year
I choose to let go
really let go
of the heavy
of the half-hearted
no more forcing connection
where it no longer lives
I choose to nourish
what's willing to grow
this year
I choose to be grateful
for the teachings of my yesterday
I honor my wholeness
when I honor my whole self- even the shaky parts
this year
I choose to step forward
clear eyes
heart open
two feet grounded
palms wide
to the all-is-possible
unknown
and new”
