Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype
by Clarissa Pinkola Estés
In honor of the first Wild Women’s Collective online series launching this month (YAY!), we’re throwing it back to an oldie but goodie. Women Who Run with the Wolves is all about honoring your inner Wild Woman, and we are here. for. that.
Estes writes that within every woman lies a powerful force – a Wild Woman – filled with passion, creativity and wisdom. However, she is an endangered species thanks to society’s attempt to “tame” our Wild Woman and muffle the instinctual nature of women. The book features rich intercultural myths, fairy tales and stories to inspire women to restore and come back to their neglected intuitive and instinctive selves, which is the main theme of Wild Women’s Collective.
Each story reveals fresh perspectives on topics like relationships, self-image and even addiction and teaches about the attributes of the Wild Woman archetype – “Bluebeard” focuses on what to do with wounds that won’t heal; “Vasalisa the Wise” reunites you with your lost female intuition and “The Little Match Girl” warns against a life lived in fantasy – and those are just three of the many powerful stories you’ll find within this treasure of a book. Through each, you’ll examine, reconnect with, understand and love your inner Wild Woman. According to the book, wolves & women share a bond in their fierceness and grace – the Wild Woman is in touch with her primitive side and relies on gut feelings to make decisions.
While I can’t guarantee that this will be a particularly easy read, I can guarantee that it’s so worth it. Stick with it, and I promise, your inner Wild Woman will thank you.
Looking to connect with your Wild Woman on an even deeper level? I invite you to The Wild Women’s Collective, a place to remember and return to our bodies and intuition. It’s where we gather together as women virtually, together while apart, to support each other as we let go of agreements that are not our own, unlearn negative patterning and release society’s expectations. It’s where we create rituals and practices that propel us into the most wildly authentic versions of ourselves, living out our truths. If you missed the Fall Collective, (sign ups for this experience end October 3rd 2020) then please join our Real, For Wild Women newsletter HERE and be on the lookout for the next installment coming Spring 2021. I would love nothing more than to welcome you to this collective of inspiring, loving and supportive women who will encourage and celebrate your inner Wild Woman.
