How Adaptogens Help Us Adapt…

To stress, nervous system health & more!

Adaptogens

Adaptogens are more than just a trendy word in the world of wellness; they’re some of nature’s most powerful tools, helping us “adapt” to stress in our everyday life - and wow, are there some stressors right now. If left unmanaged, stressors can manifest in our bodies as sickness & disease, sleep disorders, weight gain, inflammation and more – um, no thanks! If there’s ever been a time to give adaptogens a go, it’s now. Not sure where to start? Keep reading, I’ve got you covered!

So, what even are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are plants, usually roots & herbs, that help fight stress, fatigue and hormonal imbalance with the goal of restoring us to a state of balance and homeostasis. They’ve been used in ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions for thousands of years, and for good reason – they work! Some of the most popular include…

Ashwagandha – Nope, this is not a hallucinogenic tea. Known as the “King of Ayurvedic herbs,” ashwagandha is and Indian herb used to reduce stress & anxiety. If you’re looking to reduce stress and just be a happier person overall (hello, who isn’t?!), this is a great place to start.

Lion’s Mane – Basically nature’s Adderall, Lion’s Mane is potent medicinal mushroom that will boost brain power all day long, aiding in memory and sustained energy and focus. Goodbye, brain fog!

Schisandra Berry – One of the only adaptogens that’s not a root or herb, this powerful berry is known for its anti-aging properties and increasing physical & emotional health and sexual stamina.

Rhodiola – Pop rhodiola before a workout, and you’ll notice a boost in energy, endurance, strength & mental capacity. Plus, it’s also known to increase serotonin and dopamine without causing drowsiness or fatigue, a win-win!

How do I take them?

There are SO many ways to get your adaptogens in these days – supplements, tea, smoothies – and I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for you below!

Nutrafol ($88) – With two different formulas for men & women, this powerful hair growth supplement contains ashwagandha, which targets the root cause of hair loss and thinning: stress! You’ll notice the calming effects immediately and longer, thicker hair in about three months.

Apothekary – This plant-based “farmacy” provides natural alternatives to synthetic skincare and drugs. Whether it’s stress & sleep support, anti-aging or energy & mood boost, Apothekary has what you need. Take their online quiz and find out what would work best for you. Some of my favorites include Mind Over Matter and Glow Getter.

If you are in Nashville, come by my sweet zen den, The Yellow House Salon and pick up a few bottles! I always keep the very best stocked!

Firepot Nomadic Teas’ Ritual Collection ($9.49) – Inspired by ancient wellness traditions like Ayurveda, the Rituals Collection combines apoptogenic herbs into six unique blends to cultivate strength of body, mind & spirit.

Hum Raw Beauty ($39) – The superfood power that does it all! Add a scoop to your morning smoothie for a boost in energy, radiant skin and metabolism, thanks to a custom bend of antioxidants and adaptogens like ginseng, ashwagandha, rhodiola and more.

Like most things in life, these supplements work best when used with a whole mind/body/spirit approach!

Remember to take care of yourself during the busy holiday season. Move that beautiful body daily, take a few minutes to meditate each morning even if it is just a simple 5 minute body scan, get adequate rest and eat intentional, high vibe food.

And of course, surround yourself with non toxic products… and people! ;)
